Airforwarder Association (AfA) and NCBFAA leaders had a call on Monday, Feb. 26, with the General Accountability Office (GAO) project committee assigned to review the airport cargo area truck throughput issue. At the conclusion of the call, GAO reviewers asked if our associations could recommend any individuals in the air cargo value chain who would be willing to talk with the GAO committee.

The Federal Maritime Commission expects to issue its long-awaited final rule on unreasonable carrier conduct “in the next couple of months,” FMC chair Daniel Maffei said this week. He also said the commission has seen a sharp rise in enforcement cases so far this year, and he and Commissioner Rebecca Dye said they are more closely probing Red Sea-related surcharges being assessed by ocean carriers.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Friday, Sept. 12, published an updated list of qualified parties who are eligible to pay duties on international mail shipments, as per Executive Order 14324 of July 30, “Suspending Duty-Free De Minimis Treatment for All Countries,” which took effect Aug. 29. The Executive Order effectively ended de minimis duty-free treatment under 19 U.S.C. § 1321(a)(2)(C) for all shipments entering the U.S., including via international mail.
